"Just a few more tweaks" should be my mantra. Rarely able to stick to a recipe as written, either from a trusted resource or even my own pen, it's near impossible for me to cook the same dish twice without throwing in something new. It must be that perfectionist streak that pops up from time to time compelling me to create an even better recipe, no matter how well loved the original is.
There are many worse compulsions to have, indeed, and I'm not complaining about this quirk of mine, especially when it often leads in such delicious directions. However, when I finally stumble upon something so good that I feel entirely content with the ingredients, directions and result, I stop and take notice.
Actually my mantra is to keep it simple, savory and satisfying!
I initially started this blog over a year ago to scrapbook blog, share and keep my experience with winning a cooking audition for Food Network.
I'm still buzzing about the fact that I was chosen and flown to New York to star in my own cooking series!!! If you want to read more about My Experience with Food Network CLICK HEREWelcome to ~V's Daily Indulgence, my virtual dining table! I’m Valonda but you can call me just ~V.
I am a wife and a mother, an angel uncover..... opps sorry, sounds like a song? Anyway.... I am still married to the man I adore, even after 20 years. I'm very proud to say that by the way. Today you never know, every time I turn around so-in-so is divorcing, so-in-so is splitting, blah blah blah... right? Seriously, do people take marriage vows like candy. So I was saying... I have been happily married, WAIT did I just say happily? Actually marriage is team work, and we have had our ups and downs, just like everyone else. We have our good days and our bad days. The best days outweigh the bad which don't happen often.... sorry rambling again. We have 3 boys!!!! woot woot! I love love love them! They are my whole world. I am proud of them for being so very different! Funny how you're raised the same and siblings end up so different - wild huh!
More about my family coming up yawl!
Looking back at my childhood and thinking about the food my mom put on the table each night continually blows me away. Not because the food required complicated cooking methods or multiple-step preparation, but because it was real. Biscuits didn't come from a can, but from a mixingbowl, beef stew not in a can but from the magical process of stewing beef, potatoes, and carrots. And pizza could be found in the oven in imperfect shapes and layered with homemade goodness. Maybe it's selective memory, only proving food made from scratch is the most memorable kind. I tend to get a little fired up about the topic of cooking, namely the importance of home cooking and teaching people to cook. Which is why I love food blogging and this little space on the internet where I can cook, share, and hopefully encourage others to get into the kitchen too!
